The distinctive face of Resusci Anne was based on L’Inconnue de la Seine, the death mask of an unidentified young woman reputedly drowned in the River Seine around the late 1880s. A white plaster cast of the unknown woman first appeared in modellers’ shops in Paris at the end of the 19th Century and used for inspiration by many artists well into the next century.Though her death was tragic, centuries later her image is saving countless lives through CPR training.
